Members at the 2019 Annual Membership Meeting found they have a whole lot more than great coverage from ASCIP.  Members met new service partners and ASCIP staff, discovered ASCIP’s rate stability despite a rapidly hardening insurance market, plus members discovered that ASCIP is a family sharing risks, knowledge and resources.  And just like any family, we had a great time playing family friendly board games as well.

Kristine Kwong, from ASCIP’s HR Hotline, was our emcee for the day.  Kristine kept our event flowing.  “Chess Queen” and Board President, Corinne Kelsch, welcomed attendees and encouraged members to get involved in ASCIP’s committees and governance.

ASCIP is proud to announce that with recent enrollments of Ontario Montclair SD, Manhattan Beach USD, Santa Monica Malibu USD, Anaheim Elementary SD and Sierra CCD, its Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) program has enrolled its 90th construction project and is on target to reach 100 by fall with due to the recent influx of school bonds passed.

The OCIP is a method to minimize a construction project’s total cost of risk.  Construction activity on a campus is one of the most significant risks any school or community college faces.  Because of the OCIP’s ability to improve construction outcomes at the lowest cost possible, many ASCIP members have recently begun to use the OCIP for the first time since the program’s inception in 2000.  A recent cost analysis showed OCIP saved a member just under 2% of hard construction costs, a savings of over $375,000.

Did you know that SB1343 requires ALL employees receive sexual harassment and abusive conduct prevention training in 2019?  Under the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) regulations, the definition of “employee” includes full-time, part-time, and temporary employees.

The bill also requires the DFEH to produce and post both training courses to its website, which employers may utilize instead of hiring a trainer.  The department has posted the resources to its website.   https://www.dfeh.ca.gov/resources-for-employers/
