Training Resource for Mandated Reporters
July 1, 2015UPDATE:
ASCIP now offers a 32 minute on-line version of the mandated reporter training created by Making Right Choices. This training is available through ASCIP’s Learning Management System (LMS), can automatically be assigned to all employees, and upon hiring for new employees, plus it is available for ASCIP members at no cost. The ASCIP Mandated Reporter training meets all of the Mandated Reporter training requirements – it identifies the signs and symptoms of child abuse, outlines the reporting requirements and touches on all the key issues to comply with your training needs.
Remember that ASCIP also has several other Child Abuse Prevention resources posted in the Risk Services tab to help support your district’s efforts to prevent child abuse in our schools. If you are not currently signed up and using the ASCIP LMS training tool, with the addition of the Mandated Reporter Training component, now is the time to consider it. ASCIP can also provide live, in-person training for a variety of topics. However, the August training calendar is filling up quickly.

With news headlines reading “Principal convicted of failing to report suspected child abuse by teacher” and “Jury Reaches Verdict After SJ Principal Charged With Failure To Report Abuse”, training employees about their responsibility to promptly report allegations and suspicions of child abuse, along with the consequences of failure to report, becomes increasingly important. This school employee was faced with up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine due to her failure to report incidents of child abuse. AB1432 requires all school employees receive mandated reporter training within 6 weeks of being hired and then annually thereafter at the beginning of the school year to assure that employees fully understand this responsibility. SELF is currently providing a free 45 minute mandated reporter training tool to all ASCIP members at no cost until July 15.
COMING SOON…..
ASCIP will soon make a condensed version of the mandated reporter training available (approximately 30 minute run time) to the ASCIP membership through the Learning Management System (LMS). This training is currently in the final testing phase, but will be available during June for members to begin using at no cost. The ASCIP Mandated Reporter training is shorter, more engaging and dynamic than the State’s version, yet will meet all of the Mandated Reporter training requirements. The training identifies the signs and symptoms of child abuse, outlines the reporting requirements and touches on all the key issues to comply with your training needs.

If you are not currently signed up and using the ASCIP LMS training tool, with the addition of the Mandated Reporter Training component, now is the time to consider it. The LMS training tool will allow you to auto assign trainings, keep records and monitor when training is completed and send reminders to procrastinators.
